1. Delta Children 7586-607 Eclipse – Best All-Around Baby Table

The Eclipse is a changing table made almost entirely of wood parts and wooden composites. The tables come with a sleigh-type design and are available in numerous wood finishes. The standard height of this changing table is a shade over 36 inches. You will have to assemble the table at home after delivery.

The Delta is hands down, one of the best looking changing tables out there. With its classy and traditional lines and elegant wooden finish options, this table will look good inside any home.

The Eclipse does not just look good, it also looks and feels extremely sturdy. When fully assembled, this changing looks like it can last for a long time. And the assembly is also pretty uncomplicated. You can do it on your own, but it is much easier when two people are involved.

The changing pad on top is thick and water resistant, which is an added plus. The changing pad has all safety features, including a strap and guardrails. The storage spaces also offer a lot of flexibility, as they are basically open trays. Anything stored there is within easy reach of your hands.

The stained wood finish on these tables look elegant, but unfortunately, they are not long lasting. Even with minimal use and abuse, they have a tendency to flake or peel off in some places.

Delta does provide free replacement of parts. While this offer looks good on paper, the actual execution does leave a lot to be desired. The Customer case experience is not the best out there. Assembly is also often a chore, as some packages are shipped incomplete with a few lost or missing parts.

The Eclipse from Delta is by no means a perfect product. But in a crowded marketplace, it does manage to grab attention with its glut of features, safety, and overall reliability. This is why the Delta Children Eclipse gets out the vote as the Editor’s Choice best changing table of 2018. If you are in the market for an affordable yet dependable changing table, this one is highly recommended.

PROS:
  • Elegant stained wood finish
  • Meets all safety standards
  • Robust solid wood build quality
  • Water-resistant changing pad
CONS:
  • The paint job is not long lasting
  • Often comes with missing parts

2. DaVinci M0302WP Jenny Lind – Best Table Made From Sustainable Wood

The Jenny Lind is a changing table that has been around for decades now. This fashionable piece of furniture comes with all wooden construction. Classic spindle design and elegant stained wood finishes are what you get with this changing table. At 40 inches in height, this is one of the taller options out there. It can hold a max weight of 30lbs.

While many other tables use ordinary and non-descript wood and composites, the Jenny Lind is made from 100% sustainable pine wood from New Zealand. It is incredibly safe for your baby as the paints used are entirely free from lead and phthalates.

The overall build quality is excellent, and this table feels very stable when assembled. It comes with a specially designed anti-tip kit for assured safety. The Jenny Lind table is compliant with all local and international child safety regulations.

And as a consumer-oriented product, the assembly is very intuitive as easy to do at home. There is a lot of storage space on offer underneath the top surface, with two full open shelves/trays.

A built-in changing pad is not provided with this table. Though you can easily buy one at the store/online, most other changing tables come with a pad as a standard accessory. So it feels like a big miss here.

Like many other tables with paint jobs, the Jenny Lind also suffers from peeling or flaking coats of paint. Though you get guardrails all around the top, their designs leave some safety questions. The gaps between the rails are a bit too wide, and the flailing arms of a baby might get stuck between them. Though not a significant safety hazard, it is still something that needs extra attention on your part.

On the whole, the affordable Jenny Lind leaves a pleasant impression. Its vintage looks, beautiful pinewood construction, and safety features make it a decent choice for parents who need a good quality changing table for their baby’s nursery.

PROS:
  • Sustainable pinewood construction
  • The vintage design looks elegant
  • Child safety compliant design
  • Lots of storage space
CONS:
  • No changing pad
  • Coat of paint peels quickly
  • Guardrail design needs to improve

3. Delta Children 7530-207 Infant – Best Affordable Table with Basic Design

The Infant changing table shares a lot of common features with the Delta Eclipse. Like its higher-priced cousin, this is an all wooden table, with some composite bits thrown in. It is available in five different pain and wood stain finish options, Assembly is required for this table. It measures close to 40 inches in height.

Affordability is the main highlight of this Infant changing table from Delta. They have managed to keep the high fit and finish levels we have seen on the Eclipse changing table. Delta has managed to keep the price down by simplifying the design. Instead of a vintage design, the Infant gets a more simplistic/minimalistic design.

Safety concerns have been addressed adequately by the manufacturer. You get safety rails on all four sides, and the free changing pad comes with a safety strap. The paint used are all lead and phthalate free as well.

As it comes with many parts, there is a high chance that some parts come missing or damaged during transit. The free parts replacement policy from Delta does ease the pain here somewhat.

Many consumers have also complained of a strong chemical odor on their units. If you care about designs and indoor decor, the simple design of this changing table may not be to your tastes.

At the end of the day, you get what you pay for with this changing table. It is one of the cheapest options available, yet it does not compromise on essential safety features. If you can tolerate the looks and the initial whiff of off-gassing, this is a tolerable product.

PROS:
  • Affordable pricing
  • A decent set of safety features
  • Available in different paint and stained finish options
  • A lot of storage space
CONS:
  • Strong chemical odor in the beginning
  • Chance of missing or damaged parts
  • The design is very bland

4. Graco 00524-429 Lauren – Most Affordable Table With Elegant Design

Unlike many other tables, Graco Lauren has a spartan look with few bars and parts. The wooden table is available in five different stained wood finish options. The storage space on this table is in the form of open trays/shelves. The table height is 41 inches from the floor to the top surface. You will have to assemble this table at home.

The Graco Lauren shares a lot features with other high ranking changing tables in this list. The table is made from pine wood, with some composite parts. But what makes this table truly stand out is the presence of caster wheels on the feet. This is a highly mobile changing table.

But the safety is not compromised, thanks to the locking feature on these wheels. Once locked in place, the table is quite reliable and very stable. It complies with all major child safety standards and comes with guardrails and changing pad with safety straps. The affordable pricing is yet another attractive feature.

Priced at the lower end of the market, the Graco Lauren does not have the best fit and finish levels out there. Chipped and cracked parts are quite common, though tolerable. The free changing pad is also quite disappointing as it lacks adequate padding.

The minimalistic Graco Lauren table scores a lot of points due to its affordable pricing and child safety compliance. If you can tolerate the odd chipped part and thin changing pad, this is a decent product available at a budget-friendly price.

PROS:
  • Affordable pricing
  • Minimalist yet elegant design
  • Child safety compliant design
  • Extremely mobile changing table
CONS:
  • Poor fit and finish levels
  • Very thin changing pad

5. Koala Kare KB200-11 – Best Wall Mounted Changing Station For Office & Home Use

This is not a traditional wooden changing table. Instead, the KB200 looks and feels like something that you would find in a public restroom. This is a wall mounted changing station made from durable plastic. The product is available in four different colors. It is a product that does not require any assembly, but you will need special anchors on the walls for safe installation.

Though designed originally for use in offices and public spaces, the KB200 is also an excellent fit for the modern apartment. Unlike a traditional changing table, the KB200 is a more compact space saving design. Though the exterior is plastic, it has a very durable steel chassis inside.

As for storage space, the station comes with a pair of liner dispensers, capable of holding up to 50 liners. The safety features include child protection straps on the surface. The bed material is well padded and comes with a special anti-microbial treatment on the surface.

Our main gripe with this product is that it requires professional installation. You may not be able to safely install the anchors on the walls for this product on your own. And it is primarily designed for office use, so the design and looks are industrial at best.

If you want a wall-based changing station, the Koala KB300 is a decent choice with several excellent features. If you can suffer the plain design and difficulties related to installation, this sturdy product could serve your need for years. But if you don’t plan to have a lot of kids, this might be a bit of an overkill; it must be said!

PROS:
  • Compact space saving product
  • Available in different colors
  • Durable stainless steel and plastic construction
  • Has child safety straps and antimicrobial bed
CONS:
  • Not easy to install
  • Better suited for large families

6. ECR4Kids Diaper Station – Best Modern Commercial Changing Station

This is a commercial diaper station designed to be used in offices, public areas and other buildings. It comes prefabricated, but you will need to consult a professional for safe installation on your premises. The product is available in grey color.

The main advantage of this diaper station is its sleek and modern design. The wall station does not take up much space when closed. The build quality is top notch and comes with steel hinges and HDPE body. The plastic surfaces are bacteria resistant, which make cleaning a breeze.

The concave surface provides a lot of protection to the baby, and there is an adjustable strap to prevent any accidents. The station has a couple of strong hooks to hold your bags and baskets. The inbuilt liner dispensers also offer a lot of conveniences.

PROS:
  • Industrial grade build quality
  • The antibacterial surface is easy to clean
  • Compact space saving design
  • Comes with storage space and hooks
CONS:
  • Mainly for commercial use
  • Requires professional installation

7. Delta Children 2-in-1 Combo – Best Dresser With Enclosed Storage

The Delta 2-in-1 is a piece of wooden furniture intended for home use in nurseries. This table has a closed design, with wooden paneling on three sides. The storage options include one shelf in the middle and an open storage bin at the bottom. The table will require assembly at home. Delta tables are available in four different paint jobs.

If you don’t like the open-ended design that is favored by most changing tables on the market, you will really love this 2-in-1 changing table from Delta. The enclosed shelf and bin inside this table can hold your diaper supplies more securely.

The build quality is top notch, and this is one of the sturdiest tables we have reviewed. Instead of individual legs, the table has a broad base which offers excellent stability. You get a free changing pad with safety strap with this table.

The design is rather uninspiring when compared to some other vintage themed changing tables available these days. The build quality is not the best, and the table does suffer from off-gassing. Assembly can be a pain, mainly due to the less than stellar instructions.

Overall, the Delta 2-in-1 offers something different from the vast majority of open changing tables out there. If you want something reliable that looks like a dresser, this is a perfect choice.

PROS:
  • Extremely sturdy and stable
  • Enclosed and secure storage space
  • Changing pad with safety strap
CONS:
  • Often comes with damaged parts
  • Assembly instructions need to improve

8. Delta Children 7595-100 Bentley – Best Table For Short Users

Delta has a lot of different changing tables at varying price points. The Bentley here is yet another wooden changing table with all the hallmarks that we have come to associate with the brand. So we get a pair of open storage trays, an enclosed surface at the top, and multiple paint jobs on offer. The table needs to be assembled at home.

The design of the Bentley is quite classy and elegant. It is one of the better-looking products from the Delta stable or sure. The table uses wood and wood composites and uses child-safe paints.

The assembly instructions are easy to follow, and you do not require expert assistance to assemble this table. It is quite solid and comes with anti-tipping features incorporated into the design. The inclusion of a changing pad with straps is something we have come to expect from Delta.

This is one of the shorter tables out there. If you are above average height, you will have trouble bending to use the table. The paint finish is not the most durable, and this is a common complaint with most changing tables out there.

If you are on the shorter side, the Bentley is a fine choice with some charming touches. But for everyone else, this might not be the best option.

PROS:
  • Stable and sturdy design
  • Good mix of safety features
  • Comes with changing pad
  • Affordable pricing
CONS:
  • Too short for most people
  • Paint finish is not long lasting

9. Graco 00524-369 – Best Table With Tall Guardrails

This Graco table has roughly similar components and build quality features when compared to the other model featured in this list. There are four different paint jobs on offer, and the table has a wooden construction. It features open storage spaces and requires home assembly.

The main highlight of the Graco is the extra deep top surface. The taller than average guard rails around this table provide your baby with a more secure and safe changing area. The changing pad provided along with the table comes with safety strap.

The extra large storage spaces add value to this table. Even when your baby has grown up, you can continue using this table as a regular piece of furniture. Thanks to elegant design and some nice finish options, this table is sure to match any home decor.

The paint job on these tables leave a lot to be desired. You will find empty spots, and peeling bits in several places. The poor fit and finish levels are the weakest aspect of this product.

PROS:
  • Extra deep surface area
  • Elegant design
  • Large storage area
  • Water-resistant changing pad
CONS:
  • Poor paint job
  • Build quality needs to improve

10. Koala Kare KB101-05 – Best Vertical Wall Mounted Changing Station

The KB101-05 is the second wall-mounted diaper changing station from the Koala Kare brand we have reviewed so far. The main difference between this model and the earlier device is the orientation: this one has a more vertical orientation, in contrast to the horizontal placement of the other. Everything else is largely identical.

The steel and HDPE build quality of this device requires a special mention. It is extremely durable and has antimicrobial qualities as well. The built-in liner dispenser has enough storage capacity to hold 20 liners. If you want a handy place to store your bags, this one has a couple of sturdy hooks to help you out.

The product is made from 46% recycled materials, so it is environmentally friendly and complies with commercial LEED requirements. The overall design also looks quite stylish, with four different color options on offer.

As this is a commercial grade product, you will need professional assistance to install this product safely. It may not be a very useful option for home use in the long run.

The Koala Kare KB101-05 is another take on the wall mounted diaper changing station. The choice of the horizontal or vertical unit is entirely dependant on the space constrictions inside your home/commercial establishment. Overall, the product is very high quality and well built.

PROS:
  • Commercial grade build quality
  • Space saving design
  • Lots of storage space
  • Anti-microbial surface
CONS:
  • Requires professional installation
  • More suited for commercial use

Buyer’s Guide & FAQ

What is a changing table?

Changing TableA changing table is a piece of furniture created and crafted for handling infants and babies during diaper changes. It is often a key component in a set of nursery furniture.

Wood is the preferred material used to construct changing tables designed for home use. Pine and oak are the most common woods used in these tables.

But there are also commercially oriented versions available. These are compact devices installed into the walls and can be closed after use. They are usually made from high-density plastics with metal hinges.

You will have come across these tables in public restrooms, especially in federal government buildings. In fact, it is legally mandatory to have a changing table in all public buildings (including men’s restrooms), according the 2016 BABIES Act signed by President Obama.

A changing table consists of two parts:

  • A flat surface on top used to hold the baby securely during the diaper change
  • Storage areas, either in the form of drawers, trays or shelves, to hold diapers and other supplies

Is a changing table essential for my baby?

In all honesty, no, changing tables are not absolutely essential for the wellbeing of your baby.

Changing diapers is something that can be accomplished on any raised flat surface. It could be a bed, a dresser, or a table with sufficient amount of space on top to safely accommodate your baby.

But if you have the budget to spare, a changing table can be a very helpful piece of furniture indeed. It is all about extra convenience. A changing table becomes your one-stop destination for all things related to diaper changes.

You don’t have to keep a separate basket or box for your diapers and wipes. You can store them all inside the changing table itself, within easy reach every time your baby needs a fresh diaper.

What are the essential features I need to look for in a changing table for my baby?

In the order of magnitude of importance, these are the following features that every changing table must have:

Guardrail

This is a mandatory safety feature, suggested by the American Academy of Pediatrics. According to the experts on child safety, you should have at least 2 inches in height on all sides of the tables.

This feature is available on all standard changing tables. But some dressers which come with a changing pad on top does not have this feature.

Sturdy and Stable Base/Legs

This is a no-brainer. Any surface that is designed to hold an infant should have a safe and stable base. Avoid any table that has a weak base or wobbly legs.

Table Height

Most changing tables have a standard height of at least 32-34 inches. Taller ones are also available, with some touching over 43 inches.

The height of table will decide how comfortable the table is on your back. Most of the time, you will be leaning towards the table surface.

If you are on the shorter side, aim for tables closer to the 32-34 inch mark to avoid any discomfort. Taller parents should buy higher changing tables to prevent potential back pain.

Changing Pads

All changing tables come with changing pads on top as standard. Vinyl or foam based pads are the most common, though silicone pads are also available.

Babies are always at risk of rolling or crawling away at a moment’s notice. A thick contoured pad with a safety strap will keep your baby securely in one place.

But that does not mean that you can leave your baby unsupervised or unattended on a changing table! Safety strap or not, never leave your baby unsupervised on any open surface.

Storage

Be it open trays, closed shelves, or drawers; extra storage space is what truly sets a changing table apart from any old surface you can use for diaper changes.

Convenience and safety are the main benefits. With the essential items close at hand, you don’t have to take your eyes off the baby even for an instant.

Conclusion

Changing tables come in different sizes, colors, and designs. If you want one for your home nursery, the wood furniture options offer excellent value for money. For those who need a diaper changing station for their commercial establishments, the wall mounted designs provide the best value for money.
